“Maggie Stanton was a marketing intern with the Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in Spring 2017. At that time, the School had been without dedicated marketing personnel for over two years and there were a number of obstacles that the School was experiencing in the areas of communications and marketing. As the Director of the School, I charged Maggie to complete two major projects: create a School newsletter to be sent to alumni and donors, and to manage social media messaging.
Although I gave Maggie some guidelines of what I was looking for, she showed immense initiative and organization in collaborating with faculty for content and laying out an excellent newsletter. We have subsequently hired a permanent marketing associate, who continues to use Maggie’s newsletter as the model for our newsletters.
When Maggie began as our intern, a large number of programs within our School had individual social media accounts but there was no social media presence at the School level nor little coordination of messaging among School programs. Maggie created Facebook and Instagram accounts for the School and created a social media schedule based on performances and events throughout the semester. These social media posts included backstage interviews, rehearsals, and promo videos. It was a huge success and again laid the foundation for our current marketing efforts.
I was immensely impressed with Maggie’s maturity, professionalism, and skills as a designer and writer. She demonstrated an ability to collaborate with diverse groups of faculty and students, and to set and achieve goals. I know that Maggie has a successful career ahead of her.”
